About Global Harmony
Global Harmony is an inter-faith, non-auditioned community chorus open to all who wish to sing to make a difference.
In 2005, North Como Presbyterian Church 3 Benefit Concerts on a weekend in February. It was in response to the horrific Tsunami that destroyed so much in our global village. With literally 6 weeks from initial conception to the final performance, we scrambled to recruit singers, instrumentalists, special guests, and to "get the word out" to our neighbors. Our work and faithfulness paid off: over 100 musicians participated, 450 people attended the three concerts, and an astonishing $14,761 was raised for Tsunami Relief thru Church World Service. We were featured on KARE 11 News, in several newspapers and magazines.
The concerts were such a phenomenal success - not only in the tangible monies raised, but also in the intangible connections made with our neighbors - that North Como decided to make the concert weekend an annual event.
In February, 2006, the concerts raised funds for the largest country in Africa: Sudan, again raising $15,000. We were also honored by the presence of David Fanshawe, composer and performer.
In 2007, we raised monies for a community in Israel that works for peace efforts between Israelis and Palestinians, focusing their efforts on educating children on how to life in peace with their neighbors.
Our 2008 concert will be benefiting WaterPartners International, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization committed to providing safe drinking water and sanitation to people in developing countries. Working in partnership with donors and local communities, WaterPartners has helped thousands of people develop accessible, sustainable, community-level water supplies. Global Harmony will be specifically focusing our attention to the work that WaterPartners is doing in Central America.
To date, Global Harmony Community Chorus has raised over $44,000 for global relief efforts. Join us!
